While studying, I always dreamed of becoming an explorer; an archaeologist or maybe even a paleontologist. That deep-rooted curiosity led me to choose Geology in college. But, as life often does, it took its own course, far from what I had planned. But I didn’t know that my fascination with fossils would one day lead me to the fossil village of India, Langza. While I was in the cab heading to Langza from Kaza, I was reminiscing about all the movie characters I had grown up watching, like Indiana Jones and Rick O’Connell. It was my second trip to Kaza. Just like the last time, I rented a cab and set off to explore Spiti Valley. The cab initially cost me 2200 INR, but after some negotiation, I finally got it for 2000 INR. However, by the end of the day, when we returned to Kaza, I ended up paying an extra 100 INR, so the total came to 2100 INR. The journey was smooth and comfortable, allowing me to explore the hidden gems of Spiti Valley at my own pace. With a modest population of just 136 residents, Langza has earned its reputation as the “fossil village” of Spiti Valley, making it a unique destination for those interested in geology and ancient history.

Langza is easily accessible from Kaza via a well-maintained road, making it convenient to reach by car or bike. The smooth drive offers a comfortable journey to this picturesque village. Since I had rented a cab, the drive to Langza was smooth and effortless, allowing me to enjoy the scenic route without any hassle.

Since I had a local driver, who doubled up as my guide to Spiti, he took me there and showed me these ancient treasures.
