TreeStays Shangarh – Staying in Tree Tents in Shangarh on New Year 2022

From camping in Triund to glamping at Jaisalmer, staying in an arrangement like this has always attracted me. I am yet to spend a night camping in the snow and a night camping in the jungle by the riverside. The sound of cricket and water flowing in the river excites me more than anything else. When I decided to take a solo trip to Shangarh, and for places to stay there, I found this unique type of accommodation which I hadn’t seen before. And I contacted the property straight away on its Instagram page. TreeStays Shangarh has set up two accommodation options which you can choose as per your convenience and budget.

I contacted the property to enquire about the stay. As usual, I was traveling unplanned. Moreover, I had visited Shangarh twice already so I was confident that I would anyhow get something. During my last trip, I stayed at a local’s home (it was paid) due to some reasons but things were managed. Considering this all, I didn’t give much thought to it and reached Shangarh just like that. Traveling with no planning gives me stories, stories that I cherish forever, stories that are interesting and I can narrate after my journey. Since it was a new year’s solo trip, I needed this trip to be a random one and with stories.

However, I had already contacted TreeStays Shangarh to know about the accommodation. I had spoken with Negi bhaiya of Mountain View Café and had asked him if there was any bus from Sainj to Shangarh. I had booked the bus ticket one day before the journey. Delhi to Aut distance is 470KM as per Google Maps and I bought the ticket in 956 INR while the distance of Sainj to Shangarh is 15KM and the cab costs 700 INR. This time, I wasn’t hiring any personal cab. Negi bhaiya told me to take a bus to Ropa and from Ropa, something could be arranged. A good thing which happened was that the caretaker of TreeStays Shangarh was the person with whom I came to the village on a bike.

Cold Night, Bonfire and Tree Tent – TreeStays Shangarh 

I reached Shangarh around 10 AM on 1st January 12, 2022. Shangarh had already experienced its first dose of snow and I could see it. My tent site had snow around it and it looked fresh. I wasn’t that lucky to witness snowfall in Shangarh on New Year’s Eve. I wish I could have stayed one more day. It snowed continuously after my departure. I had some prior promises else I would have loved to stay more and witness snowfall from the small window of my tree tent.

In the night, I along with three more people spent some good time chit-chatting around the bonfire with music. The night was cold and the warmth of the bonfire was pleasant enough. The whole place was lighted with string lights which looked like a fairyland. The night with stars and natural sound added more to the ambiance. I felt like staying there for more. I felt like staring at the sky, at the mountains. Since I had to catch a bus in the morning at around 7:30 to Sainj (the only bus to Sainj from Shangarh and I missed that too), I went back to my tent and slept. The next day when I woke up, the caretaker told me that it snowed very light in the night. TreeStays Shangarh is located at a height, there was no snow in the meadows. I had missed my bus and I was left with no option but to take a bus back to Sainj.

Tree tent was a new concept for me. I watch a lot of tiny accommodation videos on YouTube, especially Living Big in a Tiny Home where the host visits tiny homes and interviews the owners (and I wonder why I hadn’t known it already). I had seen tree homes earlier. And as mentioned already, I had experienced camping and glamping. But the tree tent was a new thing for me and I had planned that I had to experience it. So, the tree tent looks oval. Mounted around the tree with iron bars as a skeleton, the entire structure is covered with thick camping cloth. The cloth itself isn’t waterproof and for that, another layer of plastic wrap is used.

The complete enclosure makes it totally safe. This type of camping structure is usually accessed by a small ladder. The entrance has a large ziplock which can be locked for privacy. It’s robust as compared to a conventional tree house or camping tent. Since it is supposed by a tree, it stays firm, however; it does make a sound when getting in or out. But that shouldn’t be much of a concern. After a long, I was staying in such kind of accommodation in the wilderness. So, it was a wonderful and memorable way to start and welcome the New Year.

What facilities will you get at TreeStays Shangarh and how to book a tree tent?

Though I had contacted TreeStays already through Instagram however, I hadn’t booked it. I booked the tree tent after reaching Shangarh. I paid 1200 INR per night for the tree tent. However, it’s better to check with the property since prices may vary from time to time depending on certain factors. Someone had already checked out when I arrived. But, you must plan well and book prior.

TreeStays Shangarh offers tree tents and camps, both priced differently. You can choose as per your comfort. Since I stayed in a tree tent, I can only tell you about tree tents. I am not sure about the camps My one-night stay was comfortable and there was not even a single issue that I faced during my stay. From checking in to checking out, everything went smooth and the best part was that it will stay in my memory that I welcomed 2022 from here.

• The tree tent can accommodate at least 3 people. However, they have mentioned 4 on the website with 1ton of load capacity.
• I was given two heavy warm blankets to stay warm all through the night.
• The tree tent has a night bulb and a power board to juice up your devices.
• There is a small transparent window which you can open as well.
• This is a sky view in the tent and you can enjoy the night sky.
• Common washrooms are located separately outside. You will get hot water as per the weather.
• Bonfire in the night with music to deeply dive into the ambience.
• Tea in the morning to start your day.

No matter if you are here for a day or a week, no matter if you are here for leisure purposes or come with a laptop and work, TreeStays Shangarh has everything you need. I met a couple who had stayed there for a week and worked from their tent. TreeStays is yet to set up a functional kitchen. I met with some nice people, travelers during my stay and shared a good time with them. I carried a Christmas cake which Sarah Raymond had given me and I shared that cake with those people there. That was a wonderful thing to do.

Other than tree tents in Shangarh, there are more homestays in the village such as Zostel, Ted’s Cabin, Stories of Shangarh, etc. and can be booked via major booking portals such as Booking and AirBnB. However, this is something you must do at least for once. This isn’t a paid post (sponsored) and TreeStays Shangarh didn’t pay me. This is my personal experience.
