One of the biggest challenges of traveling to a place is food. Being a vegetarian, I often have to struggle with this. Though so far, wherever I have traveled, I have got vegetarian food. But I often had to compromise. This reminds me of my Spiti Valley journey, where I ate chholey samosa for breakfast almost daily. Same, I was looking for places to eat in Sarkidhar, but unfortunately, my search didn’t end well.

Though I had booked a homestay for a week and had asked for a kitchen, since I wasn’t looking forward to cooking twice a day. I was more into going out during evening hours and having some evening snacks at a cafe or local dhaba. Sarkidhar is one of those places where the cafe culture hasn’t reached.
I have been to such places, but over time, things have changed. Those places have good cafes now. Be it Mountain View Cafe, a local cafe, or Cafe Stories n More, a new cafe run by young people. I found nothing when searching for where to eat in Sarkidhar on Google. It looked as if there was not a single restaurant or cafe in Sarkidhar. Though the place has four homestays (when I visited) which can be found online, there’s no good place in Sarkidhar where you can visit for coffee, a quick bite, or evening snacks.
From a Maggi Stall to Tea Shop – Where to Eat in Sarkidhar?
The main town is Rewalsar. That’s the main shopping place, for everything. During my stay at Sarkidhar, I shopped from Rewalsar twice for my everyday groceries and essentials. When we drive to Sarkidhar from Rewalsar, you will spot some shops on the way. The last okay-type restaurant on the road is some 5km before Sarkidhar. Next to it is a small local Maggi stall where you can get Maggi, soup, tea, etc. Other than this, there is nothing on the way.
There is a grocery shop cum tea stall near the Buddhist caves in Sarkidhar where you can sit and have tea and pakora. I guess that was the only shop that offered something to eat with tea in Sarkidhar. There are some other grocery shops, but they don’t do this. This tea stall cum grocery shop is run by the owners of Prince Homestay and Restaurants. Yes, the homestay has a restaurant, but they only operate it to serve the guests. It’s not for the outsiders. I visited this restaurant hoping to sit there for lunch, but the owners told me that they prepare food on special orders only, usually for the guests staying there.
Though the homestay where I was staying (Ritu Raj Home Stay and Cafe) also has the word ‘cafe’ in its name. But it didn’t have any functional cafe. It does have a kitchen on the ground floor (which I used for my food) which probably was the cafe kitchen some time in the past but not now. So, don’t get confused that there is a cafe. When you come to Sarkidhar, make sure that you bring enough cash. The people here don’t use UPI payment much, and you will often need cash. There is no ATM in Sarkidhar, so it’s better to get cash from Rewalsar only. There are two PNB ATMs in Rewalsar. One is at the bus stop, and the other is near the monastery at Shanti Chowk.
