Mini Thailand of Jibhi – Kulhi Katandi/Veera Ri Aal in Tirthan Valley

Jibhi was not my kind of place. Every time someone would mention this place, all I could imagine was chaos and crowd. But then I spent a week in Jibhi in October 2022. And the perception did change to a certain extent. Be it the tranquil waterfall or the Mini Thailand of Jibhi, I had some good reasons for visiting this place again. And I did when I went to Shoja in February 2023.

Tirthan Valley used to be often overlooked; however, in recent years, this place has become a common name. I have always ignored Jibhi for its crowd. Every time I used to go to Shangarh, I would often think of heading to Jibhi but then something stopped me. No doubt, Shangarh’s beauty is magnetic but Jibhi also creates an aura which mesmerizes you. Mini Thailand of Jibhi is one such attraction which also left me spellbound.

Why Is Kulhi Katandi Called The Mini Thailand of Jibhi?

In recent years, Jibhi has become quite a famous destination for backpackers and travelers. And there are several reasons for this. One of the reasons is the Mini Thailand of Jibhi which has made this small quaint village so popular among the travelers’ community. Other reasons are the treks. The famous treks are Serolsar Lake trek and Raghupur Fort trek. The main market area of Jibhi can be crowded and chaotic; however, the peripheral area is peaceful and silent.

Locals call it Kulhi Katandi or Veera Re Aal. But for outsiders, it is Mini Thailand of Jibhi. Interesting, isn’t it? That there is a Mini Thailand in India. Himachal Pradesh has some places which are referred to as Switzerland specially Khajjiar. And now, we have Jibhi which is referred to as Mini Thailand. Well, there’s a reason why people call it Mini Thailand. It‘s known by this name because of its structure. Two giant rocks (bounders) stacked together and the water passing across giving it a secluded beach vibe.

The water is crystal clear, though not deep. I went down till my knees (I’m 6 ft tall). Though a little slippery, it’s fun. The whole vibe of this place resonates with that of Thailand’s and that’s why this place is called Mini Thailand of Jibhi. When you go there early in the morning, you will barely find anyone around and you will have this place to yourself. The tranquility will soothe your soul and the sound of water will fill your ears with the sweetest symphony.

How to Reach Jibhi’s Mini Thailand

Mini Thailand is located in the outskirts of Jibhi at a walking distance. There is no parking space, so it’s not advisable to go there with vehicles. It’s better to park your vehicles at the hotels or wherever you are staying. The walk is pretty easy and you can reach there smoothly. All you have to do is to look for a sign board.

When you are in Jibhi, you have to walk on the road that leads to Shoja for nearly five minutes. It’s a short walk. You will see a board which reads Kulhi Katandi, where there is a small entrance which leads down to Pushpa Bhadra River. You have to keep walking down carefully and it can be a little risky. The terrain is all bushy (specially during monsoon) and you will have to navigate your path. So, it’s better to put on full trousers and good hiking boots. After walking along the terrain for five minutes or so, you will see the Mini Thailand.

I came across one tea-maggi stall into the wilderness. Not next to the Mini Thailand but on the way to it. You can take a break here, relax and have a quick meal. However, I am not sure if it remains open all the time. Ensure that when you visit Mini Thailand of Jibhi, you don’t litter around and keep the surrounding safe, green and plastic free. Also, avoid getting intimate with your partners; else everyone will start doing that and this place will turn into another couple’s point. I have seen people doing so and it sends a negative message. Also, the locals don’t appreciate this. So, be a responsible traveler and respect the place.

I am not really sure about the timings of visiting Mini Thaiand of Jibhi. But I think it’s better to go there within the day light only. Also, if you want to get good photographs, go there in early morning when there is not much crowd. During the day time, this place get’s crowded and you won’t get good photos.

During my second visit to Mini Thailand of Jibhi (June 2024), I came across few more food stalls and cafe on the way.
