dear 2020

Dear 2020 – Thank you and Goodbye – An ode to a challenging year

No one ever thought a virus could shut the whole world. No one ever understood the situation and no one was prepared for anything like that. While I am writing this post, the COVID pandemic situation has already crossed one year. We have lived in fear. We feared of stepping out. We feared of meeting people. Everything just disrupted our normal life. Among all this, we learned a new side of the ‘normal life.’ We adapted to new systems, new structures, and the new ‘new.’ We never believed 2020, the last year of the decade, would come into our lives with such havoc.

2020 was both good and bad for me. I did something that I was lucky to be blessed with, something that I may not ever get to live. Though there was stress on the face because of COVDI, but waking up every day was a blessing, and sharing moments together was something not everyone was fortunate enough to live. We lost a lot. Yes, there was a lot; monetarily, emotionally, family. People who lost their loved ones, that’s something irreplaceable. Nothing can fill the gap. People who lost their jobs and businesses have a hope to regain everything, starting from scratch. That’s how we have been taught to live. Even after losing everything, we don’t have to lose our hopes. We have to keep our spirits high. Not every day is a winning day. But every day is an opportunity to win.

Some people lost jobs, some hopes in 2020

The world has faced several challenges. Wars, natural disasters, etc. and have overcome everything strongly. However, this situation is yet to put under control. Scientists around the globe are working to develop the vaccines and people sitting at home and waiting eagerly so that they can break free from the chains of the fear; the fear that this situation has created. There is no doubt that we have learned to live life like this but we still miss the previous one. We miss going out with friends and family. I miss traveling without any planning. I miss those impromptu things I did previously and there is a lot at stake here.

Dear 2020

While people came closer to each other, we got to learn a lot about them. In this situation of crisis, we learned who our real people are. We learned to see how people leave. We learned to understand what’s important and what’s not. Not everything we do in life has to end peacefully and pleasantly. There are things that will leave us devastated, like this virus. But in the end, we have to make peace with whatever we are left with; be it broken hope or shattered dreams. We have to believe that there will be a tomorrow and the sun will bring us rays of hope for sure. That’s the strongest reason to live in such a situation when people leave us and we are alone.

Dear 2020,

Thank you for teaching me

How to live and how to believe

Thank you for everything you did

Good or bad

Pleasant or unpleasant

I am happy to have you passed

And ready to embrace all that I have got.

Dear 2020

Thank you for making me realize

Our problems are fickle and fragile.

There is a lot more to be done

And a lot more to establish…
