When was the last time you did something for the first time? I often ask this question to myself and always get varied forms of answers. Staying in a tree cabin was something that I did for the first time ever in my life. That was a wonderful experience; something that was long pending in my check list. However, that didn’t just stop there. After spending five nights in the tree cabin, I moved to the penthouse. I told the host that I wanted to explore his other properties. And that was the first time I experienced snowfall, staying in the penthouse at Nashala.
The experience was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Sometimes, you just have to grab the chance that you have before you. that ‘s it! Sometimes, that is the whole purpose of being alive. And I did it. I did when I chose to move to the penthouse and the same evening, it started to snow. It was the last week of February and I had been waiting for snow. However, it hailed and rained continuously, eliminating the chances of snow.
Though the real snowfall experience came when I reached Shangarh, since that snowfall was the real one, thick, heavy and kind of stormy. However, this one too wasn’t anything less. While I was sitting in my penthouse at Nashala, working on my laptop, I suddenly looked at my window and the pine trees outside were painted white.
A Snowy Night & White Morning – Penthouse at Nashala
It was Friday and I was still doing my office work. I quickly finished the pending tasks, turned off the laptop and walked out to witness nature’s one of the most enchanting phenomenon – snowfall. Well, I traveled to several places in Himachal Pradesh and this was the first time that I got to experience snowfall. So, this is going to be a memory forever. Whenever I would think of my first ever snowfall, I would always think of the penthouse at Nashala. Thus, the memories will always remain connected.
I got the penthouse pretty cheap, considering the facilities it provided. This penthouse at Nashala can be booked via Airbnb; that’s where I booked it. The host is a wonderful German person, who has been living there for a long time. You can even shop organic items such as muesli, protein bars, honey, jams, etc. And Vicky, the property incharge was a great nice boy. He ensured that my stay was comfortable. He would get me groceries and other necessary items every day.
The host had two dogs which almost looked like wolves but were too cute and friendly. They would come every morning and evening, sit around and watch me work. Sometimes, I would take a walk with them on the road and play with them. I had grown a good friendship with both the pets during my stay and I guess they too loved my presence. This penthouse at Nashala gave me a lot of good memories and enough reasons to come back here and stay for a longer time.
It started snowing in the evening around 4-5 PM and continuously snowed till the night. I just stood outside, opened my arms wide and kept standing there for a while. I tasted the snow, I let it cover me from head to toe. This was my first experience and I wanted to count every moment I was there. I wanted to embrace it to my core. The night was all snowy and the next morning when I woke up, everything was painted white. Like someone had put a white mattress everywhere. The trees, the road, the houses, the monkeys, the mountains and as far as I could see, everything was white.
This mystical ambience I witnessed from the penthouse in Nashala was so far among the best travel memories I have created. Photographs are important to treasure memories but what you have in your heart, is a different feeling which can never be compared with the photographs. And to my mind, that is the real feeling that you treasure. Not everything can be photographed, not everything can be written. It’s true! Sometimes, you just don’t want anything else. You just want to stay in the moment, get lost in the mind and that’s the true finding, the finding of joys, being in that moment. While I was clicking the photographs, I realized how much I will click. So, I left the camera in the room and sat outside, with nothing, just staring at the views, the mountains and the landmass.
The sun started to shine and the snow on the ground started to melt. The earth and everything that was covered with snow started to come in its original form, the way things were before the snowfall. Still, there were patches of snow to be seen. The mountains still had snow. I mean they had snow for a long time. This snowfall added more. But they looked even more pleasant to eyes. I had booked a cab to Shangarh. For one last time, I stayed in the balcony of the penthouse and stared at the mighty mountains covered with snow, in a hope to see them again.

Get a cab from Naggar, talk to the cab driver, tell him that you have to go to Woody’s Health Food Himalaya and he will take you there. I booked the penthouse at a fairly cheap price. I got it for 1000 INR per night, excluding the electricity. However, the host even offered to stay at half price if I wished to extend my stay. Though I had to leave for my next destination, I would have stayed there longer.
