I have immense love for hills and places nestled in the lap of hills. Be it Himachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand, these two are my favorite gateways whenever I feel like running away. Overnight journey and Mother Nature welcomes me with arms wide open. That’s what I felt at Sahastradhara Dehradun. The sound of violent water streams, striking down at the ground, falling off on the stones, this water spring gave me a therapeutic treatment and I forgot my stress on the overnight journey.
Sahastradhara Dehradun is a place you shouldn’t miss if you visiting the city. Spend some time there and take a dip in the cold water. This is far better than any spa. Though you can hear the sound of water from a distance but this place will make you feel in the serenity. Drench yourself in the tranquillity of nature and celebrate the moments you spend at Sahastradhara Dehradun. I visited this place during my visit to Dehradun.

Sahastradhara Dehradun brings spring of therapeutic properties
You heard it right. The water of Sahastradhara Dehradun waterfall is full of therapeutic properties. No doubt, its beauty can’t be confined to just a verbal description. The water is full of Sulphur which is said to benefit in several skin problems. You take a dip in it and you will be drenched in water full of sulfur; thus your skin problems will be washed away. If you are traveling alone; this place is an amazing destination for you. Though I was traveling with friends this time, I still enjoyed it a lot.
Sahastradhara spring is spread in a large area and the main part is surrounded by houses. This thousand-fold spring is often crowded with people who come here as solo travelers, with family, spouses, etc. Thus, this is a perfect spot for a family outing in Dehradun.
How to reach Sahastradhara Dehradun?
Saharstradhara can be reached easily from Dehradun. There are bus services at a regular interval of time and the bus cost is very affordable. It hardly takes around 20 rupees per person and is around 15KM away from the main city of Dehradun. You can even book a cab however, it is recommended to take public transport. It will save you a lot of money.
The place showcases a mesmerizing beauty of nature. Hills, green lush terrain, water falling off the ground from the top, bids, ambient sound of nature, everything is just soothing and makes you feel comfortable. Sure you will love to spend time at this place full of picturesque beauty.
My plan was sudden and hectic. By the noontime, I was just deciding with my friends and by the time it was evening, we finalized this destination. The only thing I didn’t want was canceling the trip. I usually take road trips especially towards hill areas of Uttrakhand and Himachal Pradesh. I did take a train for my Khajuraho visit.
You can take bath at Sahastradhara Dehradun
So, you were not planned to come here but you came randomly like me and forgot to carry a towel and other stuff. Don’t worry. Once you reach there, you will find a guy who has put a small stall and rents out towels, boxers, etc. which you can put on and splash into the water. There are lockers where you can put your luggage and a changing room where you can change the clothes. However, I recommend you to carry your own stuff (I carried my towel and stuff).
Since Sahastradhara Dehradun is a place full of nature, please make sure none of your activities is harming nature. Practice responsible tourism. Also, carry body lotion with you and use it after the shower to avoid skin irritation due to prolonged contact with the water of the spring in case your skin is too sensitive.
Sahastradhara Dehradun exhibits the panoramic beauty of nature
No doubt every other place in the hills is full of amazing natural beauty. This place is also no exception. This place takes you to a whole new level of serenity. Away from the hustle-bustle of city life; this small gem is located hidden in the lap of nature. When you walk to Sahstradhara from the bus point, you will cross a small bridge. That’s a perfect place to click Instagram worthy photographs. From the main bus stop to the spring, there is a small trek else if you have your personal vehicle, you can go straight to the main place. The water of Sahstradhara spring Dehradun is ice cold and will wash away your tiredness.
There are small shops, cafes around and you can buy souvenirs to take back home from the shops mushroomed around the spring. Apart from the spring, there is an old Shiva temple where people come. Drona Guha which is said to be the cave of Guru Dronacharya is also located nearby. You can spot terrace farming done by the locals around the place.
